The consultation

What we ask, and what we look at

A conversation and a look under the lamp: 30 minutes on its own, or the first half of a first visit. It comes before your first facial and before any peel or dermaplaning.

  • Your routine

What you use, in what order and how often. Bring it, or photograph it.

  • What stings

Which products, weather or foods seem to make your skin react, and when.

  • What you've tried

What helped, what didn't and what you'd rather not repeat.

  • What you'd like

A calmer routine, fewer steps, a plan you can keep. We say what a facial can and can't do.

  • Your note

We write down what we saw and what to pause, and give you a copy.

  • Your questions

Ask anything about the visits, the services or the room before you decide.

When we suggest a dermatologist

What we do when it's a question for a doctor

  • We say it plainly

At the visit, in the room, with the reason. You won't hear it for the first time in an email.

  • We write it in your note

What we saw and why we're suggesting a doctor, so you can show it to the person you see.

  • We keep the door open

If your doctor agrees, we can still see you for calmer visits while you wait for an appointment.

When we suggest a dermatologist

Some questions are for a doctor

A facial can't answer everything about skin, and we would rather say so than book you again. We'll suggest a dermatologist, or your doctor, when:

  • Redness that won't settle

Skin that stays red, hot or swollen for days is a question for a doctor, not for a facial.

  • A spot or mole that changes

Anything that grows, bleeds or changes color goes to a dermatologist before it comes to us.

  • Deep, painful bumps

These sit deeper than a facial reaches. We'll say so and won't book you for extractions.

  • A rash, or skin that weeps or crusts

We'll ask you to see a doctor first and welcome you back afterward.

  • A sudden change after a new medicine

If your skin changed when a prescription did, your prescriber is the one to ask.

  • A reaction that lasts after a visit

We'll note it, change the plan and suggest you have it looked at if it doesn't pass.
